Severn came out tentative, and Beane took early command with a series of low kicks to the calves and hamstrings of Severn. At the three-minute mark, he caught Severn with a straight right hand and moved in for the kill. He hit him with four consecutive punches, dropping the UFC Hall of Famer to the canvas. Beane jumped on him, finishing the knockout at 3:28 of the first round.
After the fight, Severn addressed the crowd, calling Beane “the future of the sport” and thanking the fans for helping the sport grow to the level it has reached.
“I remember seeing (Severn) fight when I was a kid,” said Michael Lowe, 36, of Framingham, who was in attendance with his two boys (ages 11 and 9). “I used to watch this with my dad when I was growing up. Now I watch it with my kids. It’s different than it was, but it’s still a great night. We are enjoying ourselves.”
